Welcome to the Catholic Society of Armchair Theologians! (S.A.T.)

About Catholic S.A.T.

This Society is an unofficial gathering of Catholic Armchair Theologians (for the most part, non-professional theologians who represent a large contingent of Catholic Church Geekdom) to study the theological sources of the Catholic faith: Sacred Scripture, the writings of the Church Fathers, the Liturgy and teachings of the Magisterium, most especially the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Theologians of the  Ressourcement movement are also sources of rich discussion and study. C-S.A.T. Chapters can gather in homes, churches, universities or at a local Starbucks! The key is to ensure that comfortable seating and appropriate libations are available to the members.

Society Chapter Meeting Format

Although we are planning to develop an official handbook for the Society, the agenda below represents a useful meeting format:

1. Greetings and Welcome
2. Prayer (Preferably from an Official Eastern or Western Catholic Source)
   
3. Opening Comments by the Chair (person that is!)
4. A 15 minute presentation by one of the members on the topic for the meeting based on the reading.
5. Question, Answers, Discussion, Debate. These should focus on most if not all of these areas:
   
   What does the author(s) assert or deny about matters pertaining to the Faith and to Church History?
   
   What is the relationship of the author(s') teaching to the saving mission of Christ?
   
   How can one apply this teaching to the need to grow in holiness and to the moral life?
   
   How is this teaching expressed, celebrated and supported in the Kingdom of God (the Church in this world and the life to come)?
   
   
6. Summary by the Chair of the Key Points
   
   
7. Discussion of next month's meeting logistics (book, chapter selections, location, adult beverages, etc.)
   
   
8. Concluding Prayer - Act of Entrustment to the Mother of God
